Marla Short, a dedicated senior athlete and Tennessee Senior Olympian from Tellico Village, Tennessee, developed a new passion for sports and fitness in her senior years.
It is truly amazing what she is achieving now, transforming new hobbies into remarkable accomplishments through relentless workouts and a commitment to health, effectively reversing the aging process as she looks and feels vibrant for her age.
Marla began actively competing in the Tennessee Senior Olympics in 2023, to stay active and challenge herself, quickly amassing medals over three years in the 65-69 age group.
Her individual medals, include three in swimming, one each in shot put and softball throw for distance, plus smaller ones from dragon boat competitions, a team sport she enjoys but considers secondary.
In 2025, she earned a standout gold in women’s powerlifting, a demanding new event featuring squat, bench press, and deadlift, which she proudly hails as her greatest achievement, showcasing her strength, resilience, and perseverance. This gold, along with many more medals, stems from her unwavering determination, proving that with hard work and healthy habits, she’s not just competing but winning big.
Supported wholeheartedly by her entire family, including her three grown children, Marla received a touching surprise from her oldest daughter: a custom Wheaties box featuring her as a champion, presented for her birthday.
